I had the pleasure of paddling a Puffy Machete this spring on my favorited Ontario river: The Upper Petawawa. I was trying to remember the lines from my last run about 10 years prior and required some last minute adjustments and corrections to avoid beatdowns. The machete’s wide planing hull and forgiving pivot allowed me to confidently read and run big water in a very fun way. The machete builds and keeps speed through big water in a very confidence inspiring way. The rear edge only catches with intention and the stern squirts feel smooth and stable. The boat rides on plane through big holes and boils with a confidence inspiring stability that rivals flatwater. The secondary stability rewards paddlers who lean into their eddy turns with stable but powerful carving. If you’re in the market for a quiver killer of a half slice the Puffy Machete should definitely be on your demo list.
